The magnitude and, in the eyes of pro-Naki nations, barbarism of the attack upon Nibiru pushed a number of those that had benefitted most from their alliances with the aliens to pass laws allowing naturalised Naki to apply for full citizenship, allowing them to both vote and run for political office. This movement was lead by president Nwude of Nigeria, which was quickly followed by India and the majority of the sub-Saharan nations, where Naki water-purification and medical technology was rapidly increasing quality of life. Of especial note was the Ivory Coast, where elections occurred a month after the act was passed into law; a hastily formed political party lead by Frederique Eko, Naki coordinator of the Malaria eradication campaign for West Africa, swept to power on a platform of building equality.
This is considered to be the event that tipped the fierce debate on the Naki in the European Federation; two days after Eko’s election, citizenship laws were announced to a mixture of acclaim and uproar. Brazil followed suit, and became the first American nation to officially welcome the Naki. Across the whole spectrum of integrated nations, economic performance sharply rose as the more accessible of Naki technologies were put to use in day to day life, especially their highly advanced medical treatments. Mossandria shone out from the centre of India, filled with high-tech manufacturing centres churning out labour saving devices to be shipped to all corners of the Naki-friendly world, and the construction of Saurandris, on the Mauritanian coast, was proceeding rapidly. To much criticism from the USA, the government of the European Federation opened peaceful dialogue with the new leaders of Russia, and agreements were made allowing Belarus to become a free trade zone administered by the Naki.
The extent of the Naki’s popularity elsewhere polarised opinion in the countries that had so far rejected them further against them. The USA made the first move, ratifying the “Blane” act. This mandated genetic testing for all citizens, and declared the presence of extraterrestrials within the country illegal. Hundreds of former citizens were imprisoned or exiled to the European Federation, which granted blanket political asylum to victims of xenophobia. In the southern states, small but significant numbers of lynchings occurred, in one case against a Democrat senate hopeful.
In Japan, a violently anti-Naki government was elected by a large margin, and similar laws were enacted. Internationally famous rock star Johnny Chess, one of Japan’s most famous citizens, confirmed persistent rumours that he was a Naki, and left the country to settle in the European Federation. A month later, he released a critically acclaimed concept album, consisting largely of swearing in Japanese. The Japanese Government responded with a demand for Chess’ extradition, claiming that he had been involved in a Naki funded terrorist attack on a military facility towards the end of 2020. This was flatly refused by the EF. China also maintained an anti-Naki stance under the government of Niu Han Ting.
Within the European Federation in particular, some cities attempted to go against the official position, often lead by xenophobic local government figures. Murders of openly Naki citizens by police forces were not uncommon, especially in Spain, and there were rumblings of the Iberian Peninsula attempting to secede from the federation. The anti-Naki insurgency was strongly suspected of inciting this violence, and under a landmark agreement struck with the EF’s government, Naki peacekeeping forces were brought in to subdue the region and drive out the terrorist elements. This was largely successful, although rumours of brutality against human citizens circulated around the world.
Political differences crystallised at the G8 summit held in Japan in June 2025. Tensions ran high in the run up to the event, as diplomatic wrangling over whether Naki aides would be allowed to attend bounced back and forth. Eventually the Japanese conceded their attendance, on the condition that they remained within embassies at all times they were not in the convention centres. Mobs lined the streets to harass the delegations from the EF and Russia, while Jonas Blane, representing the ailing president Jones, was personally greeted by the Japanese prime minister. The event was begun with a military parade, in which Japan showcased some of its advanced, and pointedly human, technology, capped off by a flypast from two gargantuan mechs, bristling with weapons. This set an antagonistic tone for the summit, which was only worsened when on the first day the hosts made the surprise announcement that an Australian delegation had been invited. The Australian ambassador, Christina Samuel, showed a strongly anti-Naki stance, and announced that her country would be re-opening diplomatic and trade links with Japan, China and the USA, to the fury of the EF and Russia, who suspected that this had been pre-arranged. Little was achieved for the rest of the day, as delegates scrambled to re-assess the diplomatic landscape, despite the attempts of the UK ambassador to act as a neutral mediator.
On the second day, the conference centre was attacked by the anti-Naki insurgency. Squads of heavily armed soldiers entered and attempted to assassinate a variety of Naki aides among the delegations, as well as some of the ambassadors themselves. This was accompanied by detonations in various parts of the building, and panic ensued. Several diplomats were killed, and the Chinese premier was hospitalised. Some of the terrorists were arrested, but many escaped, leading to hotly denied accusations of complicity by the host nation. The conference was abandoned as the pro-Naki countries left the table.
The next two weeks were a flurry of diplomatic activity. Firstly, China reversed its policies and welcomed the Naki. In a statement, Premier Niu stated that New Illuminati texts he had read while hospitalised, combined with his horror at the brutality of the insurgency, had lead him to a change of heart. It was rumoured that he went against the strong suggestions of his security advisor, Tang Huai Jung, in this matter. A few days later, in a joint statement, the leaders of the EF, Russia and India, along with president Eko representing Africa and the Naki’s leading representative on earth, Malcolm Allison, made a joint declaration that in the face of xenophobia and violence they would be forming a new Union of Nations for mutual defence. China quickly applied for membership, which was granted.
In response to this, The USA, Japan and Australia declared that they were forming The Pacific Alliance. They were joined by other Pacific Rim nations, not wishing to oppose the largest military powers in the region. The odd exception to this was New Zealand. One day, the entire island simply vanished, no longer appearing to either passing planes or radar scans. All attempts at radio contact were ignored. The only world power not to join to one of the two main blocs was the United Kingdom, which under a newly elected Liberal Democrat government maintained a neutral stance on the Naki, neither allowing them to become British citizens nor completely excluding them. Both sides alternated between making overtures and accusing the UK of being in league with the other; they seemed to have access to advanced technology.
An uneasy peace reigned in the world, punctuated by terrorist attacks within the Union against Naki citizens, and accusations made against the Alliance for harbouring those responsible.
A few months after the Union was formed, there was a massive and bloody uprising in the city of Madrid. Allegedly lead by powerful magic users sympathetic to the insurgency, the Naki governors were driven out of the city overnight. Stories filtered out over the internet of massive rituals of sacrifice in the street, led by a woman glowing with an inner light and seemingly capable of slaying those standing against her with a thought. Then the stories stopped, with the last snatches suggesting that the civilians were being rounded up for use in the dark arts. An initial military assault on the city led by Naki forces was repulsed with enormous loss of life, and there were rumours from the nearby city of Valladolid of underground rituals attempting to begin a similar revolution. The Naki response was quick and brutal. It was decided, in consultation with EF military figures, that the magical taint could not be allowed to spread. The Naki, in an ironic move, obliterated the city by accelerating the Fox News satellite into it from orbit. The move was defended by the Union as a necessary one, but was painted by the Alliance as an example of things to come.
Then came the plagues. Diseases sweeping across the Union that afflicted Naki citizens. Some that killed them outright, some that reduced them to gibbering wrecks, incapable of communication. The best Naki scientists attempted to produce cures, but the diseases seemed to shift almost weekly, and the research labs were repeatedly sabotaged, apparently by the insurgency. After one month, with no respite from the plagues, the leaders of the Union gathered once more to make a declaration. This time it was one of war upon the Pacific Alliance, whom they accused of a sustained campaign of biological warfare against their citizens. While the Alliance denied this, it was well known that the USA was home to a relatively facility of the Genetech corporation, which had been chased out of Russia under unexplained circumstances. Both sides moved rapidly to a war footing. Most countries within the Union put their militaries under the command of the Naki, and they made it clear that they intended to put the Pacific Alliance under Union control, such that there would be nowhere left for terrorist elements to find succour.
The Naki forces made the first strike. The bulk of the USA’s nukes had been depleted in the strike on Nibiru, but both Australia and Japan maintained stocks. Precision teleport strikes by elite Naki troops disabled the majority of both countries launch facilities. A few submarines managed to successfully launch missiles, but these were picked off by Naki orbital weaponry, shortly followed by the submarines themselves. The absence of nuclear weaponry forced a return to conventional warfare. The Union launched invasions of Australia, the Eastern United States, and the Japanese mainland. The Alliance launched an attack on Brazil in response, hoping to secure the entire of the Americas as a base of operations.
It became quickly apparent that the Naki forces were by far better equipped for conventional warfare than the rest of the world’s militaries. As well as highly advanced technology in the hands of human troops, they brought engineered creatures such as the Naga and a variety of cloned dinosaurs to the fray. A beachhead was quickly established in the United States, and USA forces were crushed in short order, with their armoured divisions being annihilated by the temporally diffuse particle beam weaponry brought to bear by the aliens. A significant proportion of the east coast, including New York, was soon in Naki hands, and the path to Washington was clear. The Australians put up a better resistance; they seemed to have access to either reverse engineered Naki technology, or some other source of high level equipment. Notably, their tanks seemed to be somehow shielded from beam weaponry. Nonetheless, the sheer weight of numbers on the Naki side quickly became the deciding factor.
Initially, Alliance forces fared much better in Japan and Brazil. The Brazilian army was not equipped with Naki technology to nearly the extent of its European counterpart, and a large force of USA troops successfully landed west of Sao Luis. What followed was a bloody, infantry dominated invasion, with huge loss of life on each side. Meanwhile, in Japan, the mechs lived up to their promise, devastating the troop transports bringing forces to the island. There was some hope among the Alliance that these conflicts might prove winnable, giving a basis for retaliation. However, these were soon dashed. With the US army on the run in the North, Naki dinosaur forces were brought down to Brazil, and turned the tide firmly against the invaders. Meanwhile, in Japan, the masterpiece of the Naki breeding facilities was deployed: a titanic flying creature whose wings could cover an entire battlefield in shade, and with mounted weapons attached to an enormous armoured carapace. This was deployed against the Japanese mechs, and literally tore them asunder.
With their forces being crushed across the world, the Alliance tendered their surrender. This was accepted by Favoured Overseer Allison in a ceremony at the Los Angeles Museum of Rock. It was here that Allison, watched by millions around the world, made his announcement. Humanity could no longer be trusted to look after their own planet, and earth was now to be made a protectorate of the Naki Empire.
“We came here as saviours, and you spurned us. One way or another, we will look after your species”
The Museum was turned into the centre of the Naki world government, with Allison at its head. And humanity was no longer in charge of its own destiny.
