Magical thinking

Magical thinking is the term used for misplaced attribution of causation. Often, but not necessarily, as a result of coincidental or correlative events. Someone recovering from an illness following a prayer meeting, accidents happening on Friday the 13th, or refusing to change your cloths while your sports team are winning are all examples of magical thinking.
